Books are a central part to any education. I always feel that if I can inspire a love of reading in my students, then in a way I am able to help them be lifelong learners long after they’ve left my classroom.
I have found Goodreads to be an excellent resource when trying to find read-alikes for reluctant readers. They also have wonderful lists of popular 4th grade books as well as other elementary school books.
When reading book reviews, I have also found Kirkus to have very insightful guidance in terms of recommending children’s and young adult books. This is a good way to stay abreast of new releases.
Taking students to the school and local libraries is also a great idea. It helps to get them familiar with the space so that they feel comfortable enough to come back on their own.
